Maturity is Control, Not a Chimera
When do you exactly become an adult? Is it when you’re finally celebrating your 25th birthday? Is it an age or a stage that you must muster up the courage to stand upon and perform? Or is it the aspirations; being an entrepreneur, a food connoisseur, a music pioneer, a world trotter, all of the -Errs ! that you wish to accomplish.
However adulting isn’t about becoming successful it’s about taking charge of your life, it is about being strong and telling yourself you’re no quitter … another -Er !! It’s about being the younger you who just got his new bicycle without the training wheels, the younger you who hops on it, who rides it and who falls from it but gets back up, dusts himself for yet another attempt.
You start introspecting your life, start noticing that your deadlines are due that your diet is short, your style is short and that your attitude is short of your needs. Time to grow up!
You start checking your marks, a score of 100 may sound perfect but it’s not when it is out of 850 !! so you try to talk to the professor for help but why does fear strike right before the confrontation? Yet you approach them and realize it wasn’t that difficult. You find out that there are many more people in the same boat as you and as you interact more and meet more people in your extra classes you feel more confident and start appreciating people, you start caring for them, start helping them and start being the bigger person ; start putting their interest before your interest for them , you start feeling comfortable exploring new avenues as you get exposed to them by your new friends who adore you.
You are becoming confident why not start looking confident , while its true that the clothes do not make a person but it doesn’t hurt to update your wardrobe to this decade, you start reading a fashion blog occasionally and learn new things like your belts and shoes should match and ask what else you don’t know ? You learn the proper way to squat and do crunches, the difference between dumbbells and kettlebells, the key to a good body being exercise and a good diet. So you start eating healthy and living healthy, you learn how to cook, you start shopping for fresh vegetables and you can’t help but chuckle that your mom was right vegetables were tasty and good Afterall.
You’re independent in most things so why not be independent in maintenance? , you realize that cars have gaskets during car maintenance and that sinks have gaskets during house maintenance, you get to know how to repair things or at least who to call to repair things. The trained professional’s advice to buy an expensive gasket instead of replacing the cheap one thrice makes you realize the importance of quality , you start looking around to find other things to invest in , money becomes meaningful now , you start budgeting carefully, to spend more you must earn more and so you start working towards your career , and that’s when it hits you to have a single goal you deeply want, sure that means starting at the bottom but at least you’re at a ladder you want to climb.
Now that you are cooking , working out and climbing your career time becomes more valuable , you start setting a timetable and learn to stick to it no more flaking , you take out time for your work, for your friends and your family , but you also set out time to do nothing and while doing nothing you find something or someone that you never saw coming.
You realize that becoming an adult isn’t about eating kale. making a lot of money or buying expensive clothes and cars , it’s about taking control of your life and living up to your full potential.
