If you are an active user of Facebook or other social networking sites and have come across posts and articles that fascinate and lure you to click on them even after not being a reliable source of information, welcome to the new era of clickbaiting.

For those who don’t know what clickbaits are, Clickbaits are the actual source of income through advertising without providing quality or accuracy of the news. These are focussed on creating sensational headlines so that they get as many clicks as possible and generate their revenue. If you have clicked many a times at a post containing an article which showed something from outside which was different from what was shown in the article, you have been made BAIT. This is because you at your side closed the article at your side but it gave revenue to the unethical and untalented set of people who sit back and create sensational posts, half of which are made up and have no valid source of information.

You may have come across posts such as “Rifts between 2 Celebrities”, and you’ll open the link to see what they said to each other. Also, with the clickbait article they will attach an eye catching thumbnail which will make you click on it. There will be a post containing an article that would be comparing fascinating and out of the box statistics between countries. It will tell you the rank of some countries through the thumbnail and you’ll have to open the link to check the rating yourself. They could’ve just given the rating on the thumbnail itself if it was made to provide some sort of information. You would’ve also seen “Click here to check what he said in the press conference”, attached with some 1-2 lines that may be controversial.

Now, the disadvantages of Clickbaits are that the article writers are earning revenue after misguiding people. Half Information is more dangerous than no information, this basic ethic is forgotten while posting such articles. In the articles that compare countries, we can see people from those countries fighting and using cuss words against each other and fighting keyboard wars themselves. These posts have made the youth of today believe in incomplete and baseless information. There are many such instances, there was a statistics of number of people in India without toilets which was half true and half wrong. Now, the people of other countries started targetting India for the number of Toilets because what they know is what they are told! They don’t know that there country is also suffering from the same crisis and may increase if they leave keyboards and start working for their economic development.

These Clickbaits process is not something new, youtubers, bloggers , website writers and even media, everyone wants to create a sensational news just so they can earn revenue. I am completely against this thought of clickbaiting and misguiding viewers to the information that has no head or tail. Such posts will eventually create a negative impact on the society, but wait, who cares for it until you’re earning? If you’re a active reader, stop visiting such links and better google the information once you read it because a knowledgeable reader only can spread awareness.
